5/18/26 – 3.3 minute read,
Life can be so distracting. I won’t bore you with the variety of reasons I let it distract me from this blog. I apologize in the unlikely event that you noticed my absence, or if it caused you any concern or inconvenience.
My first order of business is to say I’ve missed you. I don’t know who “you” are, but I have convinced myself from kind and unkind comments connected to this blog that there are a couple of folks who have actually read some of my blog posts. Thanks to this and my robust imagination I have allowed myself to create a vision of a small community of truth seekers who in moments of shear boredom coalesce around my obtuse thoughts. I am too uninformed as to how the website works to have ferreted out the obscure incantations that might allow me to see what is actually going on behind the green curtain. Nevertheless, I’ve sensed a loss of community, even if it is only a figment of my imagination. I have determined to improve my command of the website in order to enhance our connection. I don’t know when this will happen but I’m working on it.
Next, I want to alert readers to a film that I’ve recently viewed. The Story of Everything is a well thought out and lavishly produced documentary that provides insights into the many scientific discoveries that give us a different picture of important events like the beginning of the universt and creation of mankind than we have learned in most schools, colleges and universities.
As you might guess if you have read some of my previous blogs, this film slants its perspective in the direction of Intelligent Design as the best, most complete and, most believable answer to the existential questions of “Who are we? Where do we come from? Why are we here?”.
The film is carried along on the backs of interviews and comments by some of the world’s most prominent scholars and scientists plus some excellent animations that do a good job of illustrating the mechanics of the topics being discussed. Featured in the film are renowned scientists including Dr. Steven Meyer, Director of The Discovery Institute, Oxford Mathematics Professor Emeritus John Lennox and, Rice University’s Dr. James Tour, synthetic chemist and nanotechnologist. Addition comments, insights and explanations are provided by a variety of other credible scientists, philosophers and deep thinkers.
The Story of Everything probably shouldn’t be considered light entertainment by any but the nerdiest among us. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of intelligent design I suggest a couple cups of strong coffee prior to viewing. Then put on your thinking cap and buckle up. Although the writers and scientists did a very good job of presenting the material in layman’s terms we are talkiing about some complex stuff. The story gets fairly dense at times and the audience is required to do its share of heavy lifting when it comes to gathering up and hanging on to multiple strands of concepts as they are woven into the final tapestry.
The 2 promary concepts that are in the crosshairs of this film are the Theory of Evolution and the various thoughts on the beginning of the universe. In very recent times the scientific community has more and more begun to exit the orbit of what has been the gospel of scientific belief centered around the Darwinian perspective on the origin of life and the aspect of big bang thinking that tries to exclude the idea that the explosion known as the big bang was caused by a being rather than a spontaneous event with no particular causation.
Having said that, I also want to point out that this film is not preachy. The concept of an Intelligent Designer (aka. God) as the creator is the most logical conclusion for the current scientific evidence. If you are a truth seeker and looking for the most logical and scientific answer to how it all began you will appreciate the way God is incorporated into this film. If you are offended by the idea of God, this film will not offend you terribly. You will walk away from this film with a new set of scientific data that you will have to somehow integrate into your non-God worldview. But you will not walk away feeling you’ve been to a tent revival.
