In Luke 2:25-35 we see the entire lineage of Jesus Christ. I will openly admit that until very recently this was “fly over country” in my previous Bible reading. But today I paid closer attention and was amazed at who shows up in the direct lineage of Jesus Christ.

Adam – Adam was the first human being created. He received his spirit “breathed” His spirit into Adam. Adam is the beginning of God’s plan for human beings.

Enoch – A little way down the line from Adam is Enoch. Enoch is the subject of Genesis 5:21-24. Enoch “walked with God” and did not die a physical death but was taken directly to heaven by God.

Noah  – This is the same Noah as the guy who built the arc and  survived the great flood along with his immediate  family and all the animals.

Abraham – Founder of the Israeli and Arabian nations. There are about 13 chapters in the Book of Genesis devoted to Abraham’s story.

Isaac – Abraham’s son. Isaac is the beginning of the nation of Israel, God’s chosen people.

David – Perhaps the greatest of all the Kings of Israel. David was greatly favored by God and wrote most of the Book of Psalms. He also had a great impact on Israel and is frequently used as an example of the devotion and worship God is seeking from His people.

Each of these men were very significant characters in the Bible. They each had a direct, personal and intimate relationship with God. Their stories constitute a large part of the Old Testament and provide some of the most important information the Old Testament has to offer. Individually and collectively, they play a tremendous role in the working of God’s plan for mankind.

I think it is important to understand and appreciate the Jesus was not just some random guy, claiming to be the Son of God. He is a direct descendant of a genetic line that leads straight back to God and contains some of the most important, influential and powerful leaders of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths.
