Additional thoughts on the lineage of jesus

I want to clarify my thinking when, in a recent post, I made a big deal out of the fact that Jesus was from the same lineage as Adam, Enoch, Abraham, David and other great men from the Bible. According to the Bible Jesus’ mother, Mary, was a virgin when she conceived Jesus. In normal circumstances this would preclude the transfer of the genetic profile of Joseph, Mary’s husband, to Jesus. Jesus’ connection to the genetic line of King David was through Joseph, his earthly father. Clearly, the virgin birth is not a normal circumstance. And it could be argued since God created Adam and Jesus, that the genetic material could certainly be the same.

Nevertheless, I would argue that it wasn’t the genetic material alone that made these men great, but the spirit that was given them. As stated in Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.”

Then in Job 32:8 we learn; “But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.”
